An Introduction to SONS
Fatherhood is challenging business.
The Scripture commands much from you: “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Eph 6:4). Furthermore, church leadership qualifications include that a man “must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect” (I Tim 3:4) and are “not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient” (Titus 1:6).
Many fathers today, perhaps most, feel that they have little control in these areas. They have little control because they have little meaningful influence in their children’s lives. The best they think they can do is to get their children involved in activities where others influence their children in a positive way. While these activities may be helpful in areas, they are not a replacement for your role as father. Nor do they relieve you of your responsibility as father.
SONS is a program designed to focus you on training and instructing your son within an environment of Christian fellowship. Participation in SONS does not guarantee success, of course, but it will provide valuable structure, content and support that will help you fulfill God’s commands.
As for your son, he also faces a particular challenge—a full-scale cultural attack on the proper masculine roles of husband, father, provider and protector. You should encourage your son to stand against the prevailing cultural winds and achieve mature manhood. To do this, he will need your example and attention, as well as the influence of other godly men. The SONS program is targeted on these areas.
Welcome to our brotherhood, the Society of Noble Sons. We will face this challenging business together and strengthen one another.
