What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ: The Recipe for Life

Why We Do What We Do

The motivation behind everything we do at FRAC is that we are convinced that the gospel of Jesus Christ is absolute truth. If this gospel is unfamiliar to you, then read on…

The word gospel means “good news”. Therefore the gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news of Jesus Christ. Just what is this news which is so good? The good news is a message that is good because it is contrasted with some bad news. So, first you need to know the bad news.

The Bad News

There is a God who created the entire universe. He created the stars, moon, and sun; He created the trees, animals, and mountains; He created men and women. As the Creator, God has the right to govern His creation and make rules for them in whatever manner pleases Him. These rules are what the Bible calls laws. God has given His laws in the form of commands. All men and women are obligated to obey His commands because He is the Creator, the Lord of the universe.

The great tragedy of humanity is that all of us have disobeyed His commands. We have failed to please Him and honor Him as God. We have committed what the Bible calls sins. Whenever we don’t do what God has commanded us to do, or we do what God has commanded us not to do, we commit sin. Therefore, because God is a just and righteous God He will eternally punish anyone who disobeys His commandments.

The Good News

God has the right to punish all men and women because we have all sinned. But God is not only just; He is also merciful and gracious. He desires to be merciful to mankind and has provided an escape from His punishment. The one and only escape comes through His Son⎯Jesus Christ.

Jesus was born almost two thousand year ago to a virgin girl named Mary (obviously, this birth was a miracle). Jesus lived for over thirty years as a man, and during those years He never committed a single sin. Not even one! But, He was accused of all kinds of sin by His fellow Jews, sins like treason, lying, and blasphemy against God. Even though He was totally innocent, they convinced the Roman courts to sentence Jesus to death. Therefore, Jesus was crucified (hung on a cross) and died near Jerusalem. But, he did not stay dead. God loved His Son and raised Him from the dead three days later. Jesus’ friends went to the tomb and found it empty. Jesus came back to life, to live forever more.

What does this have to do with our sins? Well, God allowed Jesus to be killed by these men, even though He was guiltless, because God was establishing a substitution. God has provided a way for the punishment that sinners deserve to be given to Jesus, and for Jesus’ perfect obedience to be given to sinners. He becomes the sinner’s substitute.

What To Do

How can you obtain this substitution? You must believe that Jesus, who was sinless, was crucified and really died, and that God really raised Him back to life. Furthermore, you must believe that you deserve punishment for your sins, but that God punished Jesus in your place—that Jesus was substituted for you. If you believe that you ought to be punished by God, but that He will forgive your sins because He transferred your sins to Jesus and Jesus’ righteousness to you, you will be saved from God’s punishment and have eternal life in heaven. Now that’s good news! You can get to heaven only by believing this message about Jesus Christ.

One more thing, if you truly believe this news about Jesus, you will give your life to Him and serve Him as Lord. The Bible teaches that after the resurrection, God made Jesus the Ruler over all things; and to believe in Jesus means that you are a Christian, that is, one who loves and obeys Jesus. According to the Bible, everyone who “confesses Jesus as Lord…and believes that God raised Him from the dead” will be saved (Romans 10:9-11).

Do you know that you have sinned against God? Do you feel guilty about anything? If so, then there is hope in Jesus Christ. Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved from God’s wrath. Furthermore, you will have eternal life in heaven. God said it, and God cannot lie. Call out to God now for forgiveness and life. Trust in Jesus Christ for salvation!
